Description of the initiatives:
The project is funded by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, implemented on a national scale, in individual provinces by the marshals' offices and by local government units at the local level.
The entity executing the project in the province of Pomerania is the Foundation for the Development of Physical Activity.
The idea of MultiSport Project is to organize and conduct systematic, free after-school activities for children and youth from grades 4-6 elementary school (age 10-13 years).
Classes are organized in a variety of modern and attractive forms aiming to stimulate physical activity of the participants. Up till now the program was implemented in approx. 70% by the schools, 30% by sport clubs - mainly in small towns. The program is implemented during the period March - December (with a summer break) at a rate of 3 times a week for each participant, a 90-minute training units, in groups of 15-20 persons. In the year 2014, there were 62 groups in the province of Pomerania, 1130 children participated in the sport activities. They had the opportunity to practise 65 sport disciplines.
The main objectives of the program include:
• supporting the development of children and youth by increasing their physical activity in order to improve physical fitness, health and the quality of life
• promotion of the sport by increasing the number of children participate in different sports within the framework of extra-curricular activities
• familiarize children and teenagers with various sports
• identifying and developing the sporting talents
• promotion of healthy lifestyle and sports activities, in accordance with the principle of fair play,
• combat any aggression, pathology and a passive lifestyle through active and regular participation in the physical activities
The structure of the activities:
1 classes containing general development activities; promoting athletics, gymnastics and martial arts, as an exercise shaping the basic motor characteristics: strength, speed, agility, flexibility and endurance.
2 plays and team games e.g. football, handball, volleyball, basketball, floorball,
3 characteristic regional sports with local traditions and seasonal sports.
In the province of Pomerania the offer of traditional sports includes, among others, canoeing, sailing and orienteering.
An important assumption is also that the classes were conducted at various sports venues, offering the opportunity to promote many sports, encouraging participants to choose the most suitable form of physical activity according to the participants’ interests and individual preferences.
