CASE STUDY

The Context:
James started playing basketball when he was 9 years old through Eastern Primary school. He joined Tayside Musketeers at 10 years old. When he moved up to Grove Academy High School he was also selected for the U12 National team. He has played for Scotland in the U13, U14, U15 and U16s. He has played numerous International games, which has taken him to England, Wales, Ireland and Sweden.
Balancing Sport and Education:
James trains 3 times per week with the Tayside Musketeers. He also has competitive games on Saturday for both U16 and U18. International training commences in November through to August - comprising of one session bi-weekly plus games. James attends School five days per week.

He is studying National 5s in English, Maths, Physical Education, Modern Studies, Physics and Biology. James successfully balances the demands of both school and basketball through taking responsibility for his own learning and course work, making sure he completes homework (often in the library over lunch) prior to going to training and/or games.
Future Perspectives:
Possible scholarship (USA) after S6 or commence a degree in either physiotherapy or Sports Science.
