CASE STUDY

The Context:
Callum was introduced to cricket when he was 5 years old through his family. He joined Forthill Cricket Club when he was 9/10 years old. He was selected for the regional U12 cricket team in 2012-13 and then at National level U14 in 2013-14 and now plays for the U16s. He has received 30 ‘caps’ for the National team, playing against the home counties (England) and also competing in the European Championships.
Balancing Sport and Education:
Callum is studying National 5s in English, Maths, Physics, Geography, Engineering Science and Manufacturing. In the Winter Callum trains on a Friday for two hours with Forthill Cricket club and 3 hours on a Sunday with the National team (Edinburgh). He also has competitive games on Wednesday. In the Summer Callum is training 4 nights/week and playing matches on a Saturday and Sunday.

Callum attends School five days per week. He successfully balances the demands of both school and cricket through completing homework straight after school, prior to going to training and/or matches. When he is playing for the National team, his school support him through allowing him time off and by providing him with school work prior to travelling.
Future Perspectives:
Possible scholarship with School (Warwickshire, England) or commence a degree in Engineering
