CASE STUDY

The Context:
I have loved sport since I was a child, and I think that my passion for the water is an innate thing. When I was at elementary and at Middle School my family supported me, but when I started the school that I’m still attending now, my mother and my father began to put a spanner in the work. They have never forbidden to me to swim, they are only scared I could be unhealthy. I’m the first I hate when they are in the pool when I compete, they make me anxious because I don’t want to fail when they are looking at me. My school and my Teachers have always helped me, and I rarely have to do some tests after my three days’ competition. In my school sports are considered very important in the students’ formation, but I know that in Italy other activities are often considered like a waste of time and some athletes are very discouraged.

One of the things I love more is the team spirit, My team is my big family, and when I’m with them I’m very happy, I love when we go all together to a city and we stay there all the weekend, it is one of the best things I have ever done in all my life. When I am at a competition I am really anxious but my coaches and my friends support me.
Balancing Sport and Education:
I train from four to six times a week, including my gym session, for one hour and half, but when I was at the top of my physic form, I always trained twelve hours a week.
For one year and a half in fact I have had a problem with a shoulder so my training sessions are less intensive and I have had to stop lifesaving, and now I’m training to get fit again. If my tendon doesn’t recover I will need surgery.
Luckily I don’t need to study a lot to remember the lessons and what I have to know, so I limit studying to about half an hour a day, my little “scam” is listening teachers’ lessons at school, and when I’m at home I only need to read again.
I’ve never done only a sport in my life, but before I decided to swim I tried a lot of sports, I started going to the pool when I was 12, and for this sport I was “old”. My best year concerning my results is the season when I was 14-15 years old. I went to the lifesaving absolute national championship three times.
I think If I hadn’t done sports, now I wouldn’t have been like I am now, sport has always helped me at school, it makes me organized and If I know that I must go to the pool I will have to do all my homework during the afternoon.
Future Perspectives:
In my future I hope I will be able to do lifesaving again, my objective is to have a really good mark at the state exam next year, I’d like to have 100/100, then, I want to go to University, maybe the Bocconi University in Milan, to study management, and then to specialized in the promotion of “made in Italy” in the world. In my plans I’m going to continue to swim, even in the sea, without workout, only for the fun of doing it.
