CASE STUDY

The Context:
The beginning of my sports activity is related to an incident when I was in first grade. I broke my wrist. I was still very young and had no idea what kind of sport is handball, but my parents encouraged me to start training. Thanks to them I train for more than 10 years and it gives me great pleasure. Were they and me wrong and I've wasted my time with it? No, those long years of hard work, competition, losses and victories built my character and will. The people who I am most grateful to for the support are my parents and my coach who built me and my teammates as athletes, who also taught me "how to tap the ball" and that told me all about this amazing game.
Whether I think the youngsters are encouraged to do sports by the state? No, because in our country everyone looks for his own interest, each one wants to just acquire money. Also, the state does not invest in the federations – a lot of clubs need to take money from their athletes to be able to participate in national championship. One of the positive things in the state program in schools is physical education, which should encourage young people to play sports and not be idle and play computer games all the times.
Balancing Sport and Education:
One of the most memorable moments in my career was the national championship in handball, held in Petrich. I was 12-13 years old boy when we played for the bronze medal against physically stronger opponents from Sofia. The match went goal for goal, none of the teams gave the victory until the last seconds we got the right of penalty kick and won. It was the most memorable success throughout my career.
Sport helps school too, by giving children greater sense of responsibility. Some people think that it harms learning, but is doesn’t, because if you're responsible, you will be able to manage your time for both activities. Basically I split time between the two evenly, but recently with more emphasis on learning than on sport. I am not of the opinion that without sport I would be more successful student, maybe the opposite would happen, because through sport I grew as a person, I became more mature and responsible. Balancing sport and learning is very simple. At one point emphasize the more important of the two and spend more time on it, while not abandoning the other activity too.
Future Perspectives:
My future plans are linked to going to a university, but I do not think to interrupt my sports activity; I will continue with sports, because it gives me pleasure and enjoyment.
