CASE STUDY

The Context:
I became interested in sport in the first year of lower secondary school.
I was always very fond of physical activities but at that moment the teachers noticed my physical abilities which I did not realized. I am a hearing impaired person, diagnosed by specialists at the age of 2 years. My disability caused problems with communication with peers, making me feel isolated in some way. My PE teachers suggested me to start running. They encouraged me to attend after school sport activities.
With the support of my family, teachers and colleagues who noticed my achievements, my self-esteem improved significantly. I believed in my physical and intellectual capabilities. I had better and better results in the races, at the same time my school grades have improved. Thanks to my engagement in sport events and competitions I gained friends who share my fascination of sport.
My school does not have advanced sports infrastructure. Luckily, I can train running and football, which is my second passion.
Balancing Sport and Education:
I try to practice as much as possible to succeed. Every day I run, go rollerblading and cycling around 3 hours. For learning I devote about an hour a day, of course, if there is a need it is more. I try to attend school classes regularly and not to skip any lessons.
Thanks to sports I made up gaps in school curriculum. I realized that education is a basis to my future life, so I try to combine school education with my sport activity. The key is a good planning.
My sport achievements ? The first place in the Provincial Cross Country organized in the framework of the Championships “Capable Together”. That success gave me possibility to participate in the Polish Athletics Championships where I took the 4th place.
I am also the captain of the provincial football team that took the 3rd place at the Polish Football Championships "Capable Together”. Those sport events aim at students of special schools.
Future Perspectives:
My future ? I do not know for sure, the professional carrier, maybe Paralympics?
