CASE STUDY

The Context:
I started playing volleyball when I was nine because my father played that wonderful sport when he was young and he encourage me to enjoy it. Firstly my mum didn’t agree with this choice because she wanted me to become a dancer but then she started to love volleyball and she and my father have always joined me in every gym to support me and my team. Volleyball has changed my life: before started playing I was very shy and for me it was very difficult to make new friends, I didn’t speak a lot with other people and I often felt unhappy. Now I have totally changed, playing in a team has made me very friendly and a bit eccentric. In Italy a lot of teenagers play sports but I think that it is very hard to organize training and school studies, it implies many sacrifices.

Balancing Sport and Education:
I train eight hour a week, four day a week and sometimes I have a match on Thursday. I study about three hour a day before I go training and that encourages me to be immediately intent to finish in time because studying after train is really exhausting. So far I have won many provincial championships and I used to play in D category but for me the best result is to organize sport, studies and friends well. I don’t have any problem at school, my marks are good and I’m always present at the lessons. I have to thank sport for this because it makes me organized and if I hadn’t started I would have been totally different.

Future Perspectives:
In my future I hope to carry on playing volleyball, but if I go to university I’ll have to move to another city and so I’ll have to change my team. I think it won’t be easy: university and work are certainly hard. That’s my dream and I hope to achieve it!
