Description of the initiatives:
This activity is organised by Collège Sainte-Marie (in Saint Ghislain, in the Province of Hainaut), a general secondary school. The school also has a primary section.

The activity takes place in the school, which has good sport infrastructures. Indeed it is located in the middle of a 5 hectare site, the lungs of the town.
Outside, the school has several sport fields: 1 football, 3 futsal / handball,
2 basket, 1 base-ball, 1 athletic field.
Indoor, the school has: 1 climbing wall, volleyball and badminton fields, complete sport material.
The school also has access the municipal swimming pool.

Every year this school organises several internal sport activities (cross, athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, climbing… in inter-class competitions), as well as Alpine skiing trips.

It also participates in external activities: “Rhéto-Trophée” (inter-school competition involving orienteering and various sport activities), “Marathon School Trophy” (inter-school competition with a team marathon for boys, and half-marathon for girls) ...

This school offers young people the possibility to let off steam, to develop through sport, to learn to play in team and to develop fair play. The objective is simply to learn how to live together! To have a living space!

The specific activity “One sport day for solidarity!” follows the same objectives, but it has an extra scope; collecting funds for humanitarian aid. All the profits and sponsorships collected by the participants are devoted to humanitarian associations: “Abu Zabaal” in Egypt, “Muhaz” house in Rwanda and “Children of the Street” in Brazil.

All students (and teachers) are concerned, from the first (12) to the sixth year (18). It means several hundreds of participants of all ages.
Since 2012, 6th primary school pupils are also invited to participate.

During that sport day, students participate in such activities as futsal, volleyball, baseball, boules, table tennis, rollers, tennis, mountain bike, belly dance ….
The day unfolds with music and a good atmosphere. It’s the taking part that counts!
In between sport activities, students can entertain themselves in more playful activities (sack race, rifle shooting, darts, coconut shy…).

Student and teacher commitment to this specific activity has continued for 12 years. That sport day is successful every year.

The initiative has met its objectives: students’ health, good mood
And humanitarian aid.
