Aims:
promotion of awareness of importance of sport at school level

Description of the initiatives:
Knowing the cultural and natural beauty of the territory of Prato, Tuscany and Italy, planning and carrying out a trekking activity at school, with an experienced guide and the teachers in an inter-disciplinary work, has the aim of encouraging young people to carry out a research on the natural environment, on the culture, the history and the traditions of the land where they live.
This becomes a way to encourage them to walk so that, step by step, they get passionate through direct experience, they become aware of the values of the environment, and they recognize it as their own. Thus, they will learn to love and respect it, and will sow the seeds to become environmentally conscious.
A future attitude of respect and protection of the environment can be created with the opportunity to let students “feel” nature around them, through direct experiences such as hiking, living it as an educational activity that helps to socialize and to live in a more harmonious and conscious relationship with the environment.
- Steps in the implementation of the Project and / or the Good Practice
• To promote aware, more responsible and motivated attitudes and behaviors in relation to natural resources
• To allow students to interact and learn about their surroundings through a playful approach and through sport, it is a key step to sensitize them towards a reality that is an essential part of their lives
• To improve the cardiovascular functions, to strengthen the muscle power, to consolidate and develop the basic motor patterns, as well as to prevent the occurrence of diseases in adulthood such as obesity
- Objectives
• Critically recognize diversity in the shapes in which it appears as a value and an asset to be protected (biodiversity, cultural diversity ...)
• Become aware that the choices and the individual and collective actions entail consequences not only on the present, but also on the future, thus the need to behave consistently, i.e. identify and test strategies for sustainable living
• Believe in the adolescent as the first teacher in environmental behavior within the family and his area
• Develop the themes of environmental education in a cross-cultural perspective, creating a culture that allows young people to grasp and integrate the complexities of reality in which they live
• Promote physical activities - sports and exploration of natural environment - which bring young people closer to the different types of study and use of natural resources
• Stimulate curiosity to explore, learn and understand
• Develop emotional intelligence and live meaningful experiences
• Train and strengthen the territorial identity
