The initiative was launched in 2010 to celebrate the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald, which took place on 15 July 1410 and was one of the greatest battles of medieval Europe. The battle ended with the victory of Polish-Lithuanian forces over the Teutonic Order. The result of the battle had a significant impact on the political relations.

Thanks to the initiative the young people broaden the knowledge of history and become acquainted with the culture of their region through participation in special school classes, visits to museums and observation of scenes from the life of the former inhabitants of the region. The sport competition gives the young people occasion for physical activity in the project, mobilizing students to compete for the Cup and numerous awards. Through the reference to the tradition of chivalry the value of “fair play” attitude to the opponent is promoted. Moreover, the event is an opportunity to popularize a less popular sport discipline (baseball) among school children.
Taking part in the sport struggle and the common meal, which closed the event - both are the integrating factors for the participants. During the latter action they can calm emotions, exchange of experiences, share reflections on the sport event on the background of the historical battle that happened in this area centuries ago but has affected the future generations
