3. Brief overview of the project and / or the Good Practice
Over thirty years ago an unprecedented training process in Italy started: it opened the doors of common schools to all those students who, because of some disability, had lived up to that moment on the edge of the educational system, segregated within “Special Institutions ".
The route taken was not easy, since the experience of total integration has resulted in the disruption of traditional training methods. Currently, our education system allows us to offer a pedagogical perspective in which the fundamental assumption is the recognition of inclusive education as a key for the protection of human dignity of pupils with disability.
From this point of view it is now widely recognized how sport represents one of the most effective tools in this educational path which focuses on the concepts of "integration" and "inclusion" between able-bodied and disabled or BES ( Special Educational Needs) students: to share the usual and the size of the ordinary life makes the students with disabilities feel emotionally close to the others and, at the same time, creates confidence in their own ability and self-esteem; on the other hand it helps the able-bodied student to increase the feeling of belonging to a social group, where the other from himself is recognized on equal terms.

In this context it is crucial that each project, in which sport is the protagonist, provides for the presence of the entire "class group", as a heterogeneous entity composed of able-bodied and disabled students.

The project consists of spending some days in the mountains in winter, and the recipients are the secondary schools of Tuscany that can participate with a class group that involves students with disabilities, able-bodied and BES students, accompanied by one or more teachers.

2. To give schools the opportunity to improve their educational path through an event of involvement of all pupils

3. To exploit the potential of the combination of sport / disabilities, focusing on overcoming widespread and objective weaknesses (see lack of accessible sports facilities, trained personnel to take part in the initiative etc.)
