CASE STUDY

The Context:
At a very young age my parents enrolled me in a swimming class so that I could swim in case of problem. This is where I learned to love sport, so I tried to do more: basketball, gymnastics, water-polo … Doing a bit of everything I developed a taste for sport.
My parents were there to drive me to swimming competitions. Then, mostly my friends made me want to go on.
I think that in difficulty you find challenge, that you create more easily links with others. Yes, it improves them greatly.
We are lucky regarding sport infrastructures at school, we have a collective gym, a weights room, a room for gymnastics.
I think physical education at school is important for children’s physical and social development. By the way, three hours a week is not enough.
People are not sufficiently encouraged to practice sport in my country… Too many children don’t do any physical activity outside school.
Balancing Sport and Education:
It turns out my studies are in sport… so I do about seven hours of sport per week, I no longer do sport outside school. Only during holidays do I do athletics again.
I dedicate about one or two hours per week to studying.
I have won a few medals, most of them for participation, in swimming. As junior, I have been fourth of the province of Hainaut and I qualified for the school 100m Belgian Championships, with an 11’’78 dash.
I have never repeated a year. I am currently in second year physical education at Parnasse in Brussels and I go to all compulsory classes, and most theoretical classes. I think I am a quite serious student despite the fact that I always start working at the last minute. So far it is working for me.

Sport prepared me for my current studies. Even if the level is high and demanding, if I had never done athletics or swimming, I would probably not have passed the first year.
It is simple, this is my training and my future job.
Future Perspectives:
I am planning to continue sport for a few more years. Once I have finished school, I would like to work for the City sport department. Otherwise with that diploma I will be allowed to teach in primary and lower secondary school. I could also combine the two possibilities. I have also thought about being a coach, in a club or a as a private coach.
